We spoke with New Realm Brewing Brewmaster and Co-Founder Mitch Steele about Tank Dog West Coast Imperial IPA.
BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I came up with the initial recipe and we have revised it lightly with the teams’ input over the years
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
It’s simply a classic West Coast DIPA using some of our favorite hops including Centennial, Simcoe and Australian Vic Secret. The aromatics are profoundly hoppy, the beer is dry on the taste and has wonderful balance.
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Our marketing team came up with the Tank Dog name for our DIPA series, and this one was simple: West Coast Tank Dog DIPA says exactly what it is.
BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
I like too many beers to have any desert island beers. That said, this is my favorite DIPA that we currently brew at New Realm Brewing on a regular basis
BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Intensely hoppy, clear and dry!
BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
The inspiration for this recipe was the great DIPAs of the 2000s and 2010s, including some that I brewed in a past life. It’s great to be able to brew this style again.
BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Spicy, hot foods work well with West Coast Tank Dog. Chili, spicy wings, Indian food and spicy Asian food are all good pairings.
