We spoke with New Realm Brewing Brewmaster and Co-Founder Mitch Steele about Tank Dog Tangerine Mango Imperial IPA.
BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Myself and the brewing team (our Head Brewers in Atlanta and Virginia Beach) came up with the recipe together.
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
The aroma is very fruity with a perfect blend of tropical and citrus. The citrus gives a bit of an edge to the fruit flavor.
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Our marketing team came up with the Tank Dog name for our DIPA series.
BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
I like too many beers to have any desert island beers.
BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Mango, tangerine and hops! What a great combination!
BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
To the best of my knowledge, I was the first brewmaster in the United States to use tangerine in a beer about 10-12 years ago. Tangerine is such an intense orange-y flavor that I’ve continued to use it in many beers over the years.
BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Anything with spice and fruit, so Mango Habanero wings, Asian salad, etc. would all work well.
