We spoke with Moody Tongue Brewing Co. President and Brewmaster Jared Rouben about Juiced Lychee IPA.
BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Head Brewer Will Leek.
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
I really love the tropical fruit flavors and aromatics of lychee and pineapple in this beer -- perfect for warm weather this summer.
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
This beer was inspired by our travels in southeast Asia when we distributed throughout China, and the name is intended to share the primary flavor profile.
BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
Absolutely, especially if I can order al pastor tacos on the island, this would be my go-to beer.
BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Juicy, tropical fruit-forward and balanced IPA.
BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
In our team's search for balance, we began to explore the creation of a beer which would celebrate the flavors and aromatics of South Pacific tropical fruits without the bitterness of many West Coast IPAs. The Juiced Lychee IPA showcases the same tropical profile that provides acidity for salsas, which cut through rich dishes like al pastor tacos and fried shrimp.
BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Al Pastor Tacos; Pineapple Glazed Baby Back Ribs; Miso Kinmedai Nigiri.
