Features & Benefits IPA by Stone Brewing Co. is being evaluated as a Specialty IPA (Category 21B) from the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines.
Features & Benefits IPA pours a hazy yellow with a rocky white head that drops quickly to leave a thin stand of fine bubbles on the beer. The aroma features a moderate and bright hop aroma of citrus and light stone fruit with a nod to orange. Light mixed floral esters emerge behind the hop aroma along with light grainy malt. The hop character remains the focus in the aroma throughout the pour.
The flavor follows the aroma with a moderate and refreshing orange and light lemon-focused hop flavor, with a light hit of stone fruit that leans toward peaches and apricots. Light grainy maltiness emerges mid-palate along with medium-high hop bitterness that lingers into a fairly dry finish. A hint of spiciness develops in the aftertaste. No alcohol character was noted in the aroma, flavor or mouthfeel.
Features & Benefits IPA is a refreshing, easy-drinking session IPA with a bright and focused overall hop character. This one is meant to be enjoyed fresh, particularly on a warm spring or summer day. Although it is a gluten-reduced beer, it retains a pleasant grainy malt character in both the aroma and flavor. If you're looking for a flavorful session IPA this is certainly one to try.
