Trop Tail by Social Fox Brewing was evaluated as a 21B Specialty IPA of the NEIPA/Juicy/Hazy variety. This pours hazily into the glass, though not terribly turbid-looking. A persistent creamy white head adds an attractive topper to the golden-hazed body. On the nose, you're hit with a tropical fruit salad of clementines, mango and passion fruit, along with some freshly cut grass and honeyed malt. Pleasant fruity esters accentuate the orange notes as well. Pretty appetizing on the whole, if not bombastic. On tasting, the bitterness hits my sweet spot of medium high, helping balance the sweeter elements of this beer. Carrying into the taste is a ton of white pepper and Serrano chile, coupled with sweet mango and earl grey tea. It's kind of a wacky mix and unique. The peppery qualities are really played up here and caught me off guard. Medium-bodied and well carbonated, it finishes a bit on the sweet side, but all the hop oils help to balance that out. Really unique profile on this one, which was appreciated in this somewhat assimilative style. Pretty tasty stuff that could use a touch more attenuation and maybe a bigger nose to really shine.
