Cherry Bounce Berliner Weisse by Gnarly Barley Brewing Co. is being evaluated as a 29a Fruit Beer with 23a Berliner Weisse as the substyle and cherries as the fruit, per the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines. It pours into the glass an attractive pinkish-red with faint orange at the edges and pillow head that collapses. Somewhat hazy as well. The nose opens cherry forward, somewhat generically so, with a pretty straightforward yogurt-like lacto note. I get a faint phenolic note as well that detracts a bit. Beyond this, some subtle cereal grain pops through. On the taste, it is pretty straightforward. Obviously tart, just shy of sharply acidic. It seems quite clean on the palate and light-bodied/effervescent. There's not a ton of complexity in the malt here, with some crackery malt popping through the distinct tart cherry notes. Pretty drinkable and refreshing overall, if lacking some complexity. The fruit is really the show piece here.
