Two Roads Brewing Company of Stratford, CT today announced the expansion of their brewing campus with the planned addition of a 25,000 square foot sour and barrel-aging brewery. Situated on 2.5 acres of newly acquired land adjoining the existing brewery, this $12 million facility will feature a 50 barrel ROLEC brewhouse, foudres, a coolship, and storage for 2000 wood barrels. It will also have a tasting room that can accommodate 120 visitors overlooking a wetlands preserve.
Two Roads CEO Brad Hittle said, “with our sour beer program growing and gaining accolades, including the recent gold medal for our Hexotic brand in the Belgian Style Lambic or Sour category at the Great American Beer Festival, and with our existing brands growing rapidly, we felt this was the right time to expand into a new facility. This will increase our overall capability to produce unique, rare and delicious beers while protecting our main brewery from any wild yeast cross-contamination.”
Partner Phil Markowski also highlighted that his new role as Master Brewer will remove him from the day-to-day brewing operations at Two Roads and will free up his time to fully concentrate on new product development as well as quality and brewing innovations at both brewing facilities. “I couldn’t be more proud about our beers and my team of brewers, and am extremely excited about this new horizon for Two Roads and for me personally. Having a first-class barrel aging and souring brewery at my hands is a dream come true,” Markowski commented.
Two Roads plans to expand production of their award-winning line-up including its Tropical Lambic called Hexotic, Framboise Noir Black Raspberry Lambic, Urban Funk Wild Ale (made with yeast from Superstorm Sandy), Worker’s Stomp White Wine Barrel-Aged Saison, all while launching many new styles over the coming years.
Plans are to break ground in early 2017 and open in one year or less.
