BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I developed Lil’ Heaven originally as a draft-only pilot for our brewery taproom. The beer proved to be so popular we soon made it a year-round brand.
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
The new-age hops used in this beer are uniquely bright, citrusy, and tropical. These hops are unlike any others. When I first developed this recipe the beer's characteristic Azacca and Equinox hops were still considered experimental. Only recently has the ADHA given them the names we now know.
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Lil’ Heaven’s name stems from a remote, almost secret room between the floors of our building. Rumors from former US Baird factory workers say that some employees often snuck off to what they called “Little Heaven” for naps, relaxation and perhaps some other unauthorized activity.
BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
Lil’ Heaven would be a great “desert island beer” because it is hopped like an IPA, but has the balance and lower alcohol of an easy-to-drink session beer. The lower alcohol makes Lil’ Heaven an excellent way to stay hydrated.
BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Crushable!
BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
This beer is my baby. It was born in the tradition of innovation and ‘The Road Less Taken’ approach that I am so proud of here at Two Roads. For Lil’ Heaven we experimented with new and interesting hops that few people had ever heard of and we were able to create a completely unique combination of delicious flavors.
BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Lil’ Heaven pairs well with many foods but best with burgers or barbeque (think picnics!). The dry, tropical hop bitterness cuts through fatty or smoky flavors and provides a nice, palate-cleansing contrast.
