I am initially hit with a strong roast character that's full of burnt toast, ash and coffee grounds. This slowly gives way to a subtle bread crust and graininess with a bit of caramel notes to follow. The caramel amplifies as the beer warms, strongly affecting its body and balance. The beer comes off a touch too sweet and full for the stylistic expectations, though there is a light bitterness accompanied by a fleeting note of herbal hops, but it's not enough to balance the abundant sweetness overall. A noticeable fruitiness arises as you continue to drink it, which compounds the sweet perception from the caramel. This would accompany spicy foods like Buffalo wings or Thai curry incredibly well.
