Turbulence by Arches Brewing is being evaluated as a American Pale Ale (BJCP 18B) albeit as a hazy version of it. True to its name, there's quite of bit of "turbulence" to this brew when you pour it. Extremely hazy with a bit of particulate matter when not carefully poured. It's deep amber in color and maintains an ivory head for a considerable amount of time.

The nose contains dominating hops of the resinous, dragon fruit, papaya and lychee varieties with underlying honey wheat malt. No fermentation esters or flaws were perceived. The flavor follows the aroma with similar types of malt and hop flavors and the balance between the two. The moderate bitterness combined with the semi-dry finish is a bit too much and makes the beer come off as a bit rough around the edges. Furthermore, there's a grittiness to the beer, which I generally attribute to too much plant matter that further detracts.

Turbulence is one beer that will take you on a wild ride. If you're apt to drinking hazy beers in general, then this is one you're going to enjoy. Personally, I enjoy a hazy beer, but when there's too much mouthfeel and courseness to the beer, usually due to overhopping, I reach for something different.
