Heathen Brewing Head Brewer Nate Froehlich Talks Epitaph Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout

Nate Froehlich Heathen head brewer

We spoke with the Heathen Brewing head brewer Nate Froehlich about Epitaph Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout.

Where does this beer’s name come from?
We wanted to craft a beer that was good enough to take to the grave, and thus, Epitaph was born.

Is this your “desert island beer?”
Definitely not! This is a beer that is meant to be shared with friends on a chilly fall night around a fire with a cigar or whiskey. Best not to be consumed alone, or it could very easily turn into your own personal epitaph.

Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Silky smooth, oak, whiskey, and dark fruit.

What is a good food pairing for this beer?
This beer is built perfectly to cut through the buttery richness of a chocolate raspberry cheesecake, which pairs nicely with the dark fruit undertones.
