Maine Beer Company, Sebago Brewing to Expand

Two Maine breweries have announced plans for expansion – the heralded Maine Beer Company and Gorham-based Sebago Brewing.

Maine Beer Company is planning the addition of a 20,300 sq. ft. facility next to its exisiting 6,000 sq. ft. brewery that will feature more room for brewing, bottling, storage and offices, which would significantly increase its production. Last year, the brewery produced 9,864 barrels, up 58 percent from 2014. 

The plans are up for review August 10. 

Sebago Brewing, which produced 8,500 barrels in 2015, announced plans for a $5 million, 31,000 sq. ft. brewery and taproom slated to open by 2017, which would more than double its production.

“Our vision for this brewery is to create a place where people can walk the trail system or go cross-country skiing, and then take a tour of our brewery and sample Sebago beers paired with small plates from our wood-fired oven in the tasting room,” said brewery co-founder Kai Adams Adams. “It will be a great place to gather in the community and the ideal use of this unique land at the gateway to Gorham.”

If the plans are approved, the project may break ground by November.

Both expansions will be in the greater-Portland area.
