Great Raft Auctioning Pappy van Winkle Barrel for Flood Victims

Great Raft Beer Connoisseur

Lousiana's Great Raft Brewing Company is auctioning a rare 23 year Pappy van Winkle whiskey barrel to benefit Cara's House, a Southern Lousiana animal shelter which was completely destroyed in the past week's flooding. Thankfully, all the animals were safely evacuated. For all the details, see the release below:

"Our friends in South Louisiana are facing unprecedented devastation. There are countless people opening their homes, lending a hand, and donating items to help friends and total strangers begin the path to rebuild.

Many of you know that the Great Raft Brewing family has a soft spot for animals and does a lot within the NWLA community to help local shelters raise money, rehome and save animals. Our friends at Cara's House in Sorrento, LA lost their entire shelter. Luckily, all their animals were saved and re-located to other shelters and Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. However, they will have to start over and rebuild their entire shelter from the ground up.

Starting today, we'll be helping them raise money and collect donations to get their shelter back in shape ASAP so they can continue the great work they are doing to save and care for animals.

Additionally, we'll be raffling tickets for an empty 23 yr old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrel. This barrel housed one of the worlds most elusive bourbons, and then it was used to age our May 2015 batch of Old Mad Joy. The winner will also receive swag donated by Buffalo Trace Distillery.

Each ticket is $10 and every dollar will go straight to Cara's House. Tickets are available in the tasting room and online via our webstore. The winner will be announced on 9/1 at our College Football kickoff party. We will also announce the winner on our FB page and on this blog post. The winner will have 24 hrs to acknolwedge and respond to the email from Great Raft. Otherwise, another name will be drawn. The barrel must be picked up in the tasting room. We will allow the winner to arrange a proxy for pick up, but the barrel will not be shipped. We'll also be collecting donations for the shelter at the party, so please consider bringing food, supplies, blankets, bleach and other requested items. We'll be sending these items and hopefully a huge check down to them after Labor Day weekend."
