The Beer Connoisseur® magazine and online is excited to announce its media partnership with Hop Growers of New York to sponsor its events, including the inaugural Wet Hop Harvest Festival 2023.
The Hop Growers of New York (HGoNY) is on a mission to provide a structured resource for research, education, best practices, and strength-building initiatives for the hop growers in New York State. This pioneering organization is committed to supporting the unique strengths and challenges faced by New York hop growers, both past and present.
HGoNY's Three-Pillar Initiatives:
NY Grower Community Initiative
HGoNY aims to unite New York hop growers in a collaborative effort to advance research, education, best practices, and strength-building initiatives. The primary goal is to achieve both short-term and long-term objectives that benefit the entire New York hop growing community.
Grower to Brewer Initiative
HGoNY is engaging craft brewers, both within and outside of New York, to experiment with locally grown hops. This initiative encourages collaboration between brewers and New York Hop Growers and facilitates research, education, best practices, and strength-building efforts in the brewing industry.
Grower to Merchant Initiative
In this initiative, HGoNY seeks to connect with hop merchants worldwide to promote New York grown hops. The program encourages collaboration with merchants and the broader New York Hop Growers community, fostering research, education, best practices, and strength-building endeavors.
The cornerstone of HGoNY is its breeding program, conducted in partnership with Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This program is dedicated to developing a disease-resistant aromatic hop variety exclusive to New York State. Similar to the renowned NYS apple varieties, the program operates on a shared intellectual property model, with licensing available to New York State hop growers and beyond in the United States.
HGoNY is at the forefront of revitalizing the New York State hop industry, promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainability among its members and partners.
