We spoke with Uinta Brewing Brewmaster Tanael Escartin about Dubhe Imperial Black IPA.
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Named Utah's Centennial Star in 1996, Dubhe (pronounced Doo-bee) illuminates the front of the big dipper from 124 light years away. Dubhe, also known as Alpha Ursae Majoris, is a red giant that appears orange in color and has a mass that is four times that of the sun.
BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
All our beer recipes are the result of an extensive R&D process, where the original idea is pilot tested and tweaked as many times as needed based on the feedback received. The R&D department also works continuously on improving the quality of the UINTA beers with the main goal of delivering the flavor profile that satisfies the expectations of our customers. The success of Trader, Dubhe and Detour has been led by UINTAs brewmasters.
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
My favorite aspect is its unique malt bill with hemp seed as one of the main components.
BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Outstanding black IPA where piney and earthy hops shine through.
BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Chocolate Hazelnut Torte.
