Switchback Brewing Co. Announces Newest Addition to DIPA Cat Series: Wai-iti Cat

Switchback Brewing Co. has announced the latest addition to their DIPA Cat Series, the Wai-iti Cat. As the home to Switchback Ale, Vermont's best-selling craft beer, the brewery continues to push boundaries with their bold and exciting flavors.

The Wai-iti Cat is named after the New Zealand hop that gives the beer its unique taste. With notes of pink pineapple and sweet Galia melon, this extreme DIPA boasts a 9.1% ABV with a tart sweetness that quickly fades away.

“While trekking in the mountains of New Zealand (Aotearoa) I met a wonderful group of intrepid women who hiked with me and taught me all about New Zealand fauna, some Māori language and culture, and their pride in the globally renowned hops grown near their hometown,” says Switchback brewmaster Bill Cherry. “We stayed in touch after I returned and while sharing a photo they sent from the Wai-iti region with our Brewer Morgan, who spearheads our innovative DIPA Cat program, we discovered that Wai-iti is also the name of an intriguing New Zealand hop variety. From there, the concept of 'Wai-iti Cat' was born.”

The label of the Wai-iti Cat pays homage to New Zealand's classic rite of passage, bungee jumping. Switchback Brewing Co. has invested in a new Quadrel Techline high-speed labeler, allowing the brewery to create out-of-the-box labels that perfectly fit the personality of each DIPA Cat. The DIPA Cat designs are a collaboration between the brewery's long-time Graphic Designer, Interrobang Design, and Artist, Sole Kitchen. A spot varnish finish on a matte base brings the featured design elements to life as the can is rotated.

The Wai-iti Cat joins the lineup of other DIPA Cats, including Octane Cat, Galaxy Cat, Cashmere Cat, Calypso Cat, and El Dorado Cat. Available in limited quantities, you can find the Wai-iti Cat at the brewery and select stores across the brewery's distribution footprint.
