Sun King Brewery Head Brewer Dave Colt Talks Old Fashioned Extraction

Sun King Brewery Head Brewer Dave Colt Talks Old Fashioned Extraction

We spoke with Sun King Brewery Head Brewer Dave Colt about Old Fashioned Extraction.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
The base beer recipe was created by me with collaboration from Andrew Hood, Sun King's Barrel Program Manager, and the Sun King production team.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
All of the parts of the final product come together in harmony. The beer, the spirit and the oak... are complemented by the addition of orange zest and luxardo cherries.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
The beer is inspired by a traditional Old Fashioned cocktail.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
While this beer is very flavorful, my go-to desert island beer would our West Coast Style Pale Ale, Osiris.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Leather chair, roaring fire, Ron Swanson and this beer.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
We originally made this beer to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Indianapolis City Market.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Bacon flight!
