Right Brain Brewery Brewmaster Russell Springsteen Talks Concrete Dinosaur

Right Brain Brewery brewmaster Russell Springsteen

We spoke with Right Brain Brewery brewmaster Russell Springsteen about Concrete Dinosaur.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
A former brewer came up with a "scratch batch" using whatever malt was in partial bags to brew a 7-bbl batch. Our goal has always been to "Keep Beer Curious."

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
I like the aroma. It smells like green bud although there's none in it!  It also has a nice bitter bite to it while fading to the peppery rye.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
The name comes from the flatwork on the concrete floor underneath our mill.  The masons half-assed the job and left a rough patch of concrete in the shape of a brontosaurus. It'll be there forever.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
More like a "lost in the woods" beer.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Brown Rye IPA, chocolate meets rye spice and hop punch.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
It won a silver medal at GABF in 2015. I took that personally!

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Thai food. Noodles and heat!
