pFriem Brewmaster & Co-Founder Josh Pfriem Talks pFriem Extra Pale Ale

Josh Pfriem Brewmaster/Co-Founder

We spoke with the pFriem Family Brewers brewmaster and co-founder Josh Pfriem about pFriem Extra Pale Ale.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
A lot of our beers at pFriem are created and evolve through a team approach. Extra Pale is one of those beers.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
The aroma of this beer is wonderful; the melon and pineapple aromas dance above the big strawberry flavors.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Most beers at pFriem we just call them what they are. This beer is a strong pale ale or an extra pale.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
This is close to a desert island beer for me…hoppy and drinkable…but probably not "the one."

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Bright golden with melon, pineapple, and big notes of strawberry.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
We do a line of beers called Single Hop Pales. We take the same strong pale base and sub it out with new or unfamiliar varieties of hops to see how well they showcase themselves. We decided to take what we have learned from this series and hone it into a more pronounced single beer, the result is our Extra Pale.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Smoky Mac and Cheese- gemelli pasta, three-cheese sauce, garlic breadcrumbs, fresh herbs and topped with lardons.
