We spoke with Night Shift Brewing Head Brewer Joe Mashburn about Fluffy.
BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I did.
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
Probably how saturated we're able to get it in hoppy, juicy, citrusy flavor without any of the typical bitterness you see in a more traditional IPA.
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Literally how "fluffy" it feels to drink - it's like a fluffy cloud of hop juice.
BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
Desert island beer might have to be our Nite Lite light lager - it's just so easy to crush, you never get sick of it. Fluffy is awesome, but after a few, you need a break. That hoppy saturation is thick.
BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
It sips like a fresh squeeze of hoppy orange juice.
BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
We first released it back in 2016 and had a line out the door for four-packs. We sold out in less than an hour. That told us we were onto something. We're finally able to make it in big batches and share it with a wider audience - it's on shelves in almost all of our markets. It took us a long time to get here, but it's fun to see that transition happen.
BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Gotta go with our award-winning Detroit-style pizza at Lovejoy Wharf, our Boston taproom and restaurant. Probably the 'Roni, 'Roni, 'Roni - let that spicy pepperoni play off the juicy hops.
