Motorworks Brewing Lead Brewer Jose Martinez Talks Pulp Friction

Motorworks Brewing Lead Brewer Jose Martinez Talks Pulp Friction

We spoke with Motorworks Brewing Lead Brewer Jose Martinez about Pulp Friction.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Bob Haa (Head Brewer) & I did.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
Its popularity with our customers!

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
The name is a play on the locally-sourced grapefruit oil we use, plus it’s a nod to one of our favorite movies. A tasty beverage perfect for washing down the tasty burger of your choice.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
No; variety is the spice of life!

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Like cutting into a ripe, ruby-red grapefruit.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
(Bob Haa) I personally thought this beer was a little too heavy on the grapefruit aroma, so I wanted to dial it back a bit. That was quickly shot down by the other brewers and our customers; everyone loved that first brew and it has really taken off since.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Pulp Friction pairs perfectly with sharp, aged white-cheddar cheese.
