Mother Earth Brew Co. Head Brewer Chris Baker Talks Four Seasons Autumn '17

Chris Baker head brewer of Mother Earth Brew Co.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I inherited this recipe from our Founder Dan Love who wrote it years ago when Mother Earth first created Sin Tax Imperial Peanut Butter Stout. We brew Sin Tax year-round and I prepared a special batch to be placed in fresh bourbon barrels and then blended the result to achieve the profile that we were seeking.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
This beer has a decadent aroma due to the peanut butter addition and contributions from the bourbon barrel.  Big notes of caramel, vanilla, peanut butter and oak dominate the aroma and flavor; all in harmony and well balanced which is why I think this beer is such a treat! It opens up as it tempers and the peanut butter is there to compliment, not to take over.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
The name Four Seasons reflects the frequency of our special releases in this program, all different and available only in limited quantities.  They are both “series”, as well as “vintage” as the “Seasons” always return, however the beer style changes each year/season. The base beer for this, the autumn 2017 offering is our imperial peanut butter stout called Sin Tax.  Its name is derived from things that were illegal/sinful during prohibition. Depending on whom you knew however, you could still get these things if you wanted to pay.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Barrel aged campfire s’more!
