Monday Night Brewing Head Brewer Ryan Cooley Talks Currant Events

Monday Night Brewing Head Brewer Ryan Cooley Talks Currant Events

We spoke with Monday Night Brewing Head Brewer Ryan Cooley about Currant Events.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I came up with this recipe.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
To me, this is such an easy-drinking, approachable sour beer. I think it works well for people who are just getting into sour beers and want to try something a little more out there - but also a super solid tart sour for those experienced drinkers too. But honestly, pour some into a glass and look at that super awesome cherry-like head that comes with it.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
We like to do a lot of wordplay in naming our beers (in case you haven’t noticed). Using black currants, we started riffing, and came up with Currant Events.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
This is such a tasty beer, and it’s pretty low in ABV, so I could knock back 10 of them and the day wouldn’t be so bad.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
I was just playing around with fruit flavors and what I thought would pair the best with a tart sour base. Finally decided that boysenberry and black currants would pair really well together. We were stoked about the result, and the color of the beer is killer.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
I would say any kind of dessert.  Maybe even a good topping on some ice cream.
