Coronado Brewing Director of Brewing Operations Shawn Steele Talks Shared Waters

We spoke with Coronado Brewing Co. Director of Brewing Operations Shawn Steele about Shared Waters.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Tyler Clark of Libertine Brewing Company and Ryan Brooks, formerly the Head Brewer of Coronado Brewing, came up with this recipe.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
My favorite aspect is the high drinkability of the beer. It has rustic and sour notes with a delicately light hop aroma.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Both of our breweries are very close to the water and share a passion for the coastal lifestyle.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Sour, rustic, bready with a hint of hop bite.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
This beer was the second part of our collaboration with Libertine Brewing Company. The first part of the collaboration was a wild ale done at the Libertine Brewery in San Luis Obispo, California.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
The acidity and touch of hoppiness in this beer highlights the citrus notes in ceviche, or helps cut through the heaviness of richer dishes like salmon or lobster mac ‘n’ cheese. It’s also great at cutting through the creaminess of goat cheese, while highlighting the subtle funky earthiness. It’s amazing how versatile it is!
