Black-Owned Breweries Collaborate on Educational Mixed Hazy IPA 4pk Highlighting Unsung Heroes of Black History

Full Circle Brewing Co., Hella Coastal Brewing Co., Hunters Point Brewery and OPB have joined forces to create the Second Edition Peoples Beer special release with label art featuring four unsung heroes of Black history. Full details are below.

On February 1, 2022, the collaboration 4pk brewed by four Black-owned breweries in celebration of Black History Month will be released! Full Circle Brewing Co., Hella Coastal Brewing Co., Hunters Point Brewery and OPB created the Second Edition Peoples Beer special release with label art featuring four unsung heroes of Black history.

Each brewery brewed a different style of Hazy IPA with label art created by renowned artist Milton Bowens. The labels feature African American change makers as they were deemed the "first" in their industries, with historical information included about each person. As Bowens always says, “Get your knowledge wherever you CAN!”

The can labels showcase Bessie Coleman – The First African American Female Pilot, Mary Ellen Pleasant – The First African American Self-Made Millionaire, Frederick McKinley Jones – Patented The World’s First Successful Refrigerated Transportation System, and Robert Abbot – Newspaper Publisher & Founder, “The Chicago Defender.”

Black-owned breweries involved in this collaboration are dedicated to movements that support inclusion, diversity and equity in the craft beer industry. “Despite the continued growth of the craft beer industry, less than 1% of commercial brewers and brewery owners are Black,” said Rodg Little, Brewer at Oak Park Brewing Co. “In efforts to grow the 1%, we are making history every day and we want to recognize those who came before us and paved the way!“

In addition to sharing history, the collaboration 4pk provides a taste exploration of four different styles of Hazy India Pale Ale. The mixed 4pks will be available at local retailers throughout Northern California.
