Autumn Ale – Breckenridge Brewery – 93 Rating

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I did.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
I really like how Autumn Ale’s flavor emulates the season.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
It certainly could be.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
The essence of fall: roasty, nutty, satisfying. Enjoy after raking!

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
When I was thinking about the recipe for our fall seasonal, I kept going back to memories of autumn in Virginia in my college and post college days when I lived in an urban Richmond, VA, neighborhood called The Fan. Massive hardwood trees lined the streets of row houses, cafes, and bars. In the fall there was always a deep layer of dead leaves on the sidewalks. Walking the neighborhood, crunching and kicking up the leaves, created an earthy, almost nutty, aroma. That smell, combined with the smell of wood-burning fireplaces, just embodies autumn for me.

That time in my life was the inspiration for Autumn Ale. Munich malt and roasted barley create flavors that match the aromas of the leaves and fireplaces. We fortify the beer a bit (6% ABV) to remind you of a sip of libation from a flask at a college football game. A taste of Autumn Ale is truly a taste of fall.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Add Autumn Ale to beef stew or chili; pair it with roasted pork or chicken and also pecan pie.
